“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
–WIlliam A. Ward
Teachers are an important part of our lives. In order to thank them, Eleanor Roosevelt created Teacher Appreciation Week. This First Lady pushed for the day’s recognition as a holiday in 1953. In 1985, the Parent Teacher Association officially established Teacher Appreciation Week as the first week of May. It has been celebrated annually since.
There are plenty of ways show your appreciation:
- Visit the PTA website to purchase a special gift for a teacher.
- Nominate a favorite teachers for national or local awards.
- Use the hashtag #ThankATeacher to share how you plan on appreciating your teachers on twitter.
In what ways are you planning to show your gratitude to your teachers this year? Let us know in the comments.
