Last year had the first annual Color For a Cause 5K Color Run, hosted in honor of a BT student who passed away from an allergy attack almost two years ago. At the 2016 run, hundreds of people participated to raise a large sum of money to benefit the Food Allergy Research and Education Foundation.
This year, the BT Student Council and the BT Lemon Club will host the second annual Color For a Cause event, sponsored by the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. A majority of the Run’s profits will be donated to the foundation, which was inspired by a late cancer patient, Alexandra Scott, who opened a lemonade stand to raise awareness for childhood cancer at the age of four. The foundation has raised over $100 million dollars to date and continues the legacy set forth by Alexandra.
The BT Student Council proudly supports this initiative and encourages the BT community and their friends and family to participate on June 4th, 2017. A runner’s package will be sold during lunch periods and at the run. The package includes sunglasses, color powder, and admission to the event. T-shirts may be purchased on-site to be worn during the run.
The event was a success last year, and this legacy will continue for years to come. The Student Council believes that participation from everyone is key to an uplifting school environment.
