This year, Bergen Tech saw a return to form in its annual Broadway Night, which stopped years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After such a hiatus, it was bound to be quite an anticipated comeback, and the fifteen talented students that put on the show did not disappoint.

The show followed this group of students as they prepare for the end of their high school years and the intimidating journey through college. These fun high school clichés and magnified emotions were articulated through a wide array of famous broadway songs, from Leah Duffill’s rendition of “I’d Rather Be Me” from Mean Girls to Angel Paredes-Balbunea’s performance of “You’ll Be Back” from Hamilton.

While the bulk of the night was focused on solo acts and songs performed by small bands of students, the entire ensemble gathered three times throughout the show, always delivering fun, dynamic acts that coincided with the climactic points of the show. When the whole cast entered the stage to sing “Stick to the Status Quo” from High School Musical, the energy in the auditorium was truly palpable.

On the heels of such an awful pandemic, the satisfying return of Bergen Tech’s Broadway Night was a significant task. But thanks to the amazing work put in by everyone involved, cast, crew, and teachers alike, the night was nothing short of a complete showstopper.
